2021 Ground Zero Twilight Classic

It was perfect running conditions for the 2021 Ground Zero Twilight Classic, hosted by Coastal Track Club and the Prairie Inn Harriers, at Swanguard Stadium in Burnaby, BC where some of our Vancouver Olympic Athletes, past and present ran in one of the first of many Open competitions since Covid-19 restrictions have been lifted.

Competing first was Stephanie Sinclair and Tilda Cressman competing in the Women’s 800 meter race with a field of 15 women. Stephanie finished in 8th place with a time of 2:24.47 while Tilda followed up behind in 13th place with a time of 2:27.58

Cole Timko ran in the men’s 800m in a field of 26 athletes ranging from ages 14-21 with Cole being the youngest competitor. Cole finished the race in 21st place with a time of 2:10.97, a PB for the young athlete.

Finishing 12 out of 24 men, Senri Nakamura competed in the 100m dash and ran a time of 11:90.

Congratulations to these athletes on their fine performance and representation at the 2021 Ground Zero Twilight Meet.

VOC alumni athletes in attendance were Dylan Uhrich whom completed the 3000m steeple chase in a solo run and getting a time of 8:58.31 which is the fastest U20 time in Steeple in Canada this year and the 9th fastest Canadian U20 in the event of all time along with being under the 2021 World U20 Track Champs Time Standard. Also, Sophie Dodd placed 1st in the womens 800m with a time of 2:06.69 while Devan Wiebe came 3rd in that same race with a time of 2:12.18
