Getting back to Competitions: 2021

2020 was history in the books with a pandemic hitting the world. 2021 – we’re finally getting back to some competitions and opening up the world.

Harry Jerome 2021 – June 12 at Swangaard Stadium in Burnaby

Our athletes, Thomas Ma and Adria Sellers, competed at the 39th Vancouver Sun Harry Jerome International Track Classic on Saturday, June 12th amongst a stadium filled with just athletes and their coaches. No spectators allowed. Thomas competed in the 100m Mens Dash and finished in 5th place with a time of 11:38 while Adria Sellers competed in the 200m Womens Dash and finished in 4th place with a time of 28:03. Thomas will soon be a VOC alumni as he leaves this September to attend University in the USA.

VOC Alumni, Thomas Nobbs, completed in the 5000m Mens race and finished 4th with a time of 14:38.62. Congratulations to all athletes competing at the Harry Jerome International.

Devan Wiebe, another VOC Alumni, finished 3rd in the Women’s 800m with a time of 2:08.13.

NCAA 2021 Championships – June 9-12 at Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon

Two VOC alumni athletes represented their NCAA Universities this past weekend in Oregon and they did not disappoint.

Stephanie Cho, a Washington State University Senior, ran the 400m Hurdles with a 57:64 preliminary time on Thursday night and advanced to the finals. On Saturday, she PR’d with a time of 57:48 ranking her 3rd all-time in WSU history in the 400m Hurdles. You can watch her race here.

Ceili McCabe, a West Virginia University Freshman, ran the 3000m Steeplechase on Thursday night with a time of 9:39.27 advancing her to the finals. On Saturday night, Ceili did not let down anyone, she came 6th with a time of 9:37.39. A Personal Record and a new school record as well. Ceili’s final can be seen here.

Both girls made earned the All American Accolades with their awesome weekend results. Congratulations to both!
