On Saturday, November 30, seven VOC distance runners competed at Canadian National X-Country Championships in Abbotsford, BC.
Two of our VOC athletes, Kendra Lewis and Dylan Uhrich, were selected to represent the BC Provincial Youth X-Country team.
Kendra Lewis had a good race and finished second with the time of 14’18”, winning the silver medal and helping the BC team to win the gold medal and the Canadian Champion Title.
Review of Kendra Lewis‘Achievements:
In 2018, Lewis ranked # 9 at Olympic Youth Games, and was the winner of the 1500m at Jamaican 2018, Canadian X-Country Youth Champion, and the BC High School Champion.
In 2019, she won double Canadian Youth Champion titles in the 1500m and 3000m – the BC High School 3000m Champion and NACAC 1500m Youth Champion.
Lewis is currently ranked # 33 in 1500m at IAAF World Youth List and ranked # 1 in the province in 1500m and 3000m. With her great achievements in the VOC program, she is moving to the next step of her athletics career where she will run with the prestigious Villanova University Track and Field Program.
Dylan Uhrich ran a solid race finishing 33rd with the time of 19’52” and helped the BC Provincial Youth team win the silver medal.
Review of Dylan Uhrich’s Achievements:
In comparing his last year results, Dylan had amazing achievements in 2019, making for the first time the Canadian National Youth Team at NACAC and a member of BC X-C Provincial team. Also, he finished second in 2000m Steeple Chase at BC High School Championships and 7th at BC X-Country Championships.
Uhrich is ranked # 22nd in 2000m Steeplechase on the 2019 IAAF World Youth List, and ranked # 1 in the province in this event. With his great achievements with the VOC program, Dylan will be joining the University of BC for his post secondary education and the Thunderbirds Track and Field Team.
In the boy’s youth category, Riordan Miya and Paul Paetzel, both ran a strong race and finished respectively in 66th and 97th place with the times of 20’33’ and 21’14”
Riordan, was a runner up at Vancouver High School X-Country Sea to Sky Championships behind Dylan Uhrich, who won the race, and Paul Paetzel finished strong in 17th place.
For Midget girl’s category, two VOC athletes Stephanie Sinclair and Tilda Cressman demonstrated good form and ran a solid race finishing 34th and 42nd with the respective time of 16’14’and 16’45’. Both girls had great athletics season this year with many top three places at Vancouver High School track and X-Country Season for their respective events category.
Ceili McCabe, who is training with West Virginia University, ran under VOC registration and finished fifth for junior category (U20) with the time of 21’03”. With this result, Ceili was selected for the Canadian National X-Country Junior team to compete at the 2020 Pan-Am Cross Country Championships in Victoria, BC.
In the 2018 -2019 athletics season, Ceili have had great achievements with VOC program, including her late NACAC standard in 3000m Steeple Chase, and making herself an elite National and International athlete.
Under the VOC program,she is ranked #55 in 3000m Steeple Chase at IAAF World Junior List, a Canadian Junior Champion of 3000m Steeple Chase , BC Champions of 3000m Steeple Chase and 800m, and BC HS Champion of 1500m Steeple Chase.
