Devan Wiebe won the 800m heat for High Performance at the Portland Track festival on June 12.
She ran 2:03.21, a personal best time of 1.7 sec. There were very positive comments regarding her race. The announcer commented that Devan was a potential athlete for the Olympic Games.
She will race tomorrow at 9:17 pm, at Harry Jerome Track Classic, against top world 800m women (two of them with silver and bronze in World Championships.)
Below are her comments about the race in Portland.
“The atmosphere in Portland was perfect for fast racing and seeing so many Canadians run Olympic standards and personal bests was incredibly inspiring. To run a breakthrough race and take 1.7s off my previous personal best (2:04.91) feels awesome. Besnik and I have been working very hard, and this result is a great confidence boost before the biggest race of my season – the Harry Jerome Track Classic on Friday night. At the Jerome I will be racing two of the five Canadians to ever break the two minute barrier, including World Championships silver medalist and national record holder Melissa Bishop, as well as a handful of crazy fast international elites. It is an enormous privilege to share the track with these women and I can’t wait to have some fun and attack my personal best like a hungry tiger.”
