Last weekend, the Junior Development athletes competed at the season opening VOC elementary track meet in Richmond.
For the 9 year old division, Nayan Soma, in his first track meet with the team, ran an impressive 60m hurdles race winning a silver medal with a time of 12.64. Great efforts in the 60m and 100m coming in second in his heat with times of 10.73 and 17.07, and ran a solid 600m with 2:24.23.
For 10 year olds, Sage Miller and Sadie Lee, both running their first races. Miller ran a strong 60m and 100m with respective times of 10.34 and 17.18. Lee with 10.65 and 17.34. Both had strong performances in the long jump and Lee also in hurdles.
For 11 year olds, Tiana Ho, had great improvements in the 60m with 10.29, the 100m with 16.61 and she ran well in the 60m hurdles. Katelyn Sussey ran a strong 200m with 37.54 and 600m with 2:23.91.
For 12 year olds, Adria Sellers ran a fantastic 800m winning the race with a strong sprint in the end with the time of 2:49.13, followed by her teammate, Tilda Cressman, winning the bronze medal with 2:50.01. Zoe Cheng also had a strong sprint at the end with a good time of 3:17.43 and Meera Soma with a time of 3.25.28.
Cressman, Sellers, and Mosley, ran a great 80m hurdles, with the respective times of 15.26; 15.41 and 15.47, finishing 5th, 6th, and 7th.
In the race walk for this category, Sellers came in 2nd with 5:51.12; Cheng came in 3rd with 5:51.13; Mosley 4th place with 5:51.16, and Cressman was 5th place with 5:51.24. Tilda Cressman ran a solid 1200m with 4:34.42 in 4th place. Sellers, Mosley, Cressman, King, and Meera Soma, did a great job in Long Jump.
Mosley achieved a 1.20m in high jump, coming in 5th place. The girls ran a strong 4x100m relay coming in 5th place. In this age group, Victoria King ran a great 100m with 15.49 followed by Lauren Mosley with 16.02 and Meera Soma with 17.43. Sellers, Cheng and Mosley ran a good 200m and Soma in 300m, which showed potential for better results in the future.
For 13 year olds, Clara Tjoa, had great achievements in many events. She ran an impressive 200m, coming in second with the silver medal, behind the winner, Alicia Bremer, of NW Spartans with a time of 29.95. Clara ran a strong 100m in the final with 14.38 in 6th place. Kaitlyn Loo, as a first time participant, had great meet results, winning a silver medal in triple jump with 9.16m and came 4th in long jump with 4.08. First time participant, Karrina Shuen, had great results in 300m with 49.78 in 6th place, and strong sprints and jumps results.
For the boys in this category, Pirro Ifti, had a huge personal bests in 800m and 1200m, coming 5th in both events with the times of 2:31.14 and 3.53.44 with a strong finish in both events. Caemon Blakely won bronze medal in triple jump with 7.67m.
Other VOC athletes, who competed with their school track teams, had great results. Thomas Ma of St. Georges was the star athlete of the meet winning 5 gold medals in 100m, 80mH, 200mH, Long and Triple Jump all of them with fantastic results. Sophie Fernback won a silver in high jump with 1.50m and two bronze medals in long jump with 4.15m and 80m hurdles with 13.99. Elouise Klassen made great efforts in many events including sprint and jumps with good results of 1.00m in high jump.
