Three VOC athletes, shone at the St. Partick’s Day Run, and 5km BC provincial 5 km Road race Championships on Saturday, March 12 , at Stanley Park.
Along with more than 1400 athletes, from the province, three VOC athletes, Ben Paetzel, Sam Correa, and Thomas Nobbs, started the 5km St. Patrick’s Day Run at 9:30am at Stanley Park. This race was the 2016 BC Provincial Road Race Championship. The race started very fast and was very competitive, with Thomas Nobbs, keeping pace with the lead pack, with a time of under 4:40 for the first mile. He finished 13th overall, with a great final time of 15:20. He ranked first for athletes under 20, and won the 2016 BC Road Race Award for Youth.
Ben Paetzel ran a strong race with a good time of 18:44, followed by Sam Correa, who ran a solid race and with a huge personal best of 19:45.
Six VOC track athletes, competed the same day, at Percy William Indoor Games at the Richmond Oval, winning 6 gold and one bronze medal.
The star of the games, was a new VOC member, sixteen year old, Logan Bovell, who impressed the spectators, winning 200m, for the senior high school category, with a time of 26.64, the 2016 best provincial indoor time for this category. Bovell also made the final for the 60m, running a fast race of 8.02 sec.
Jasper Schiedel, the Canadian Champion in 400mH for Youth, also ranked # 1 in the country in Decathlon, and #20 at 2015 World Youth Championships in Cali, Columbia, won two gold medals in shot put with 11.14m and high Jump with 1.75m, and one bronze medal in the 60m with a time of 7:36.
Three other gold medals, came from Spencer Pratt, who won the 400m with a time of 54.88, followed by Kendra Lewis, who won the 1200m with a time of 3:56.39, and is ranked now # 1 in the province for midget, and in the sprint event, from Chloe Ainsworth, who won the 60mH with a personal best of 10.19. Jillian Wong ran a fast race of 60m with a personal best of 8.58.
