VOC athletes continue their great performances this Cross Country Season.
Last Saturday, Devan Wiebe, ran a solid race at the 42nd Annual Western Washington Invitational Cross Country Meet in Bellingham coming second on her UBC team with the time of 23′ 20 sec.
After winning the seniors’ division race at Meet #2 of Vancouver’s High School Cross Country Season, Thomas Nobbs was invited to the BC Youth Distance Training Camp Weekend with top BC High School athletes in Victoria. The event was organized by The Prairie Inn Harriers, with the generous support of BC Athletics and UVIC, hosted by Bruce Deacon (Two-time Olympic marathoner, Pan Am Games Silver medalist, multi-time national champ). Tom attended a workshop with Cameron Levins (Olympian, Commonwealth Games Bronze medalist, current national record holder for 10,000m, multi-time NCAA Champ) and had a hands on strength work demo from the Nike Oregon Project. He also participated in the panel discussion with Elite Canadian such distance runners and Olympians as:
- Heather Hennigar (World Indoor Champion at 800m, currently the National High Performance Hub Coach for Victoria)
- Simon Hoogewerf (Two-time Olympian, World Indoor Championships Bronze medalist, former national junior/senior/indoor/outdoor record holder for 800m and 1000m)
- Robyn Meagher (Olympian, Commonwealth Games silver medalist, multi-time CIS Champ)
- Thomas Riva (National 1500m Champ, multi-time CIS Champ)
Ben Paetzel, ran a great race in the junior category of Vancouver High School Cross Country Meet #2, coming second and closing the gap on the winner.
Kendra Lewis had another great victory at this meet winning first place for senior Vancouver high school girls with great time of 18.02.10.
Sam Correa, ran for the first time and was ranked third with his Kitsilano High School. With his score, the school was ranked third place.
For Junior Development:
Pirro Ifti and Sophie Fernback won their respective races for grade 7th at the elementary school district meet and Adria Sellers came second at her race for grade 6 girls.
All other VOC athletes ran very well at their respective schools’ cross country meets.
