VOC Athletes Shine at BC Track & Field Provincial Championships

Eleven VOC athletes competed at the 2015 BC Athletics Track & Field Championships in Nanaimo this last weekend.

FullSizeRender-01FullSizeRenderAnastas Eliopoulos shone gold in the 110mH youth category winning with a time of 14.42 confirming his national ranking in this event. He continued winning silver in the 100m in a time of 10.98, and bronze in the 200m with 22.47.

After winning silver in 2000mSC with a PB of 6:17.08, Thomas Nobbs showed his potential as one of the best national middle distance runners winning the gold in the 1500m with 4:08.82, a 3.16 sec. PB. He also earned a PB of 1.4 sec. in 800m coming 4th with 2:00.17.

Spencer Pratt achieved his personal best in the 400mH running for the first time under 60sec. He ran a strong race and came 4th with 59.80.

Ben Wang had a solid run in the sprint events with 24.34 in the 200m final.

Ben Paetzel had a great run in the 800m at 2:10.12 and 1500m in 4:25.71

On the women’s side, Hannah Johnston ran well in the 100mH with a PB of 14.53, and 64.35 in 400mH winning silver in both events showing her strength as a high caliber hurdler.

Chloe Ainsworth was fourth in the Triple Jump and sixth in the Long Jump and 200mH. Paris Eliopoulos was solid in the sprint and jumps.

FullSizeRender-02The highest expectation event of the championship was the 800m in the women’s senior category. There were four national team members competing and Devan Wiebe came in with 2:10.29 for a spectacular victory. She had a great run with efficient tactics and won the gold medal for a great finish for the season.
