After a very successful participation at the Jerome Indoor Track Meet on Feb.7 at the Richmond Oval, VOC athletes participated at the Van Ryswyk Indoor Invitational in Kamloops February 13-14-15. A highlight of the weekend was the Sunday February 15 awarding of the Bronze Medal to Dylan Armstrong for his shot put performance a the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games. VOC athletes and coaches participated at this prestigious event to support the achievements of Canadian and British Columbia Athletics, Armstrong and to inspire new generations in track and field. At the Van Ryswyk Indoor Invitational track meet, VOC won 13 medals: 8 gold, 3 silver and 2 bronze. Jasper Schiedel dominated the meet winning five gold medals in Pole Vault, Long Jump, High Jump, 400m and 60mH. Personal bests included 1.80m in HJ, LJ and 400m, 60mH another indoor personal best. Hannah Johnston ran strong races winning two gold medals in 200m and 400m and silver in 60m dash, and came third in the 60mH. In the Junior Development category, Kendra Lewis exploded onto the track winning gold in the 800m with 2:31.92 and 1200m with 3:55.99. With these new high results in 1200m, our 13 year old Lewis is ranked #5 in the Canadian National ranking for the Midget Category (14-15 years old). Thomas Ma (12 years old) had a great competition, winning long jump with 4:39m, second in 60m and 200m and third in shot put.
