BC ATHLETICS ANNOUNCED 2014 BC MIDGET and YOUTH PROVINCIAL TEAMS

On Thursday, July 17, BC Athletics announced the BC Provincial Midget and Youth team.
Based on the selection criteria, BC Athletics announced that four of seven VOC athletes who achieved the standard have been selected for the BC Provincial Team for the Canadian Legion Championship.

For the YOUTH Category (U18)

  1. Hannah Johnston in 300mH with 43.81
  2. Jasper Schiedel in 300mH with 39.44

For MIDGET Category (U16)

  1. Thomas Nobbs in 800m with 2:01.90 and 1500m Steeplechase with 4:20.37
  2. Anastass Eliopoulos in 100H with 13.65 and 200mH with 25.50

Our Head coach Tatjana Mece has been selected as the BC Provincial Coach for sprints/hurdles and relays.

7 VOC Athletes Achieved the BC Provincial Team Standards

We are proud to announce that seven of the VOC athletes  achieved the BC Athletics Provincial Team Standards for Midget and Youth categories during the qualification period:

  1. Stephanie Cho in 300mH 42.85 with BC Provincial Youth Record
  2. Jessica Hanson in High Jump with 1.71m
  3. Hannah Johnston in 300mH with 43.81
  4. Megan Picken in 300mH with 45.05
  5. Jasper Schiedel in 300mH with 39.44
  6. Thomas Nobbs in 800m with 2:01.90 and 1500m Steeplechase with 4:20.37
  7. Anastass Eliopoulos in 100H with 13.65 and 200mH with 25.50

Congratulations to all of these athletes for their great achievements.

 

14 Medals at BC Provincial Jamboree Championships with 7 BC Champion Titles.

VOC athletes showed quality results at the final BC Jamboree Championship in Kamloops, July 11-13, winning 14 medals, 7 Gold, 5 Silver and 2 Bronze with 7 BC Provincial Champion Titles.

The top position of the VOC team at this championship  was Thomas Nobbs who won three gold medals and provincial championship titles in: 800m with a personal best of 2:01.57; 1200m with 3:17.47; and a personal best of 4:20.37 dominating in the 1500m Steeple achieving the BC Midget Provincial Team Standard and ranking # 1 in the Province for Midgets.

Anastass Eliopoulos won 100mH and 200mH with amazing results of 13.69 and 25.50 winning two gold and achieving the BC Provincial Midget Team Standard. Eliopoulos came second in the 100m with a time of 11.60 for the silver.

In the same category, Ben Wang demonstrated great performances winning bronze in the 300m with 38.32 and 7th in 200 with 24.33.

For the youth category, Jasper Schiedel won the Long Jump with 6.08m and came second in the Pole Vault with a personal best of 3.60m. In the 300m H, he was runner up with 39.54.

Hannah Johnston continues to achieve great results. She came second in the 100mH with a personal best of 14.93, and won silver in the 300mH with BC Youth Provincial Team Standard. In horizontal jumps she won a bronze in LJ with 5.18m and 4th in TJ with 10.94m.

Samantha Cho got the gold in 3000mRW with 16:58.42 and Megan Picked had a solid run in the 800m with 2:20.23 in six place.

Big progress came from the twins Leo and Rui Ando. In the 400m, they came 5-6th respectively 51.20 and 51.48 and 7th and 8th place with 2:00.90 and 2:01.34 in the 800m with personal bests in all events.

VOC Athletes Shine at Trevor Craven Track Meet

On July 5-6, eight VOC athletes competed in the Trevor Craven Track Meet at Swangard Stadium achieving great results.

From JD category, the medal came from Kendra Lewis who won gold in the 800m with a time of 2:34.38 for 12 year olds. For 13 year olds, Nina Watson ran 7:30.79 in the 2000m and Chloe Ainsworth ran the 200mH with a result of 31.79 to win the gold. Paris Eliopoulos was 3rd in the 200mH with 33.39. Nina Watson also won the 1500mRW in 10:05.56.

In the 80mH, VOC was represented by three athletes respectively placing 3-4-5:  Ainsworth 13.58; Cheema and Eiliopoulos with 14.38.

In the Midget category, Thomas Nobbs won the 1500m Steeple with 4:22.45 achieving the BC Midget Provincial team Standard. Ben Wang had great results in the sprint events with 24.28 in the 200m and 38.96 in the 300m winning the silver medal, and 11.79 in the 100m for the bronze. Despite injuries, Kyle Jang came third in the 300m with bronze.

For the youth category, Hannah Johnston achieved amazing results in the 300mH winning silver with 43.81, a personal best by 0.65 sec. She came third in the 100mH with 15.06, but won gold in the Triple Jump with a personal best of 10.99m.

Megan Picken won another gold in the 800m for the same category.

In the youth category for boys, Jasper Schiedel won the 110mH and earned silver in the Pole Vault with 3.50m. Schiedel came second in the 300mH achieving the BC Youth Provincial team Standard with a personal best of 39.44. Javier Sanches Mejorada earned bronze with 43.46.

 

14 Medals earned by VOC Athletes at the Jack Brow Track Meet in Kelowna

On June 27-29, 8 VOC athletes competed in the Jack Brow Track Meet in Kelowna winning 14 medals: 8 gold, 3 silver and 3 bronze.

The top result was achieved by our high jumper Jessica Hanson, who won gold with a personal best by 6 cm. Hanson jumped 1.71m achieving the BC Youth Provincial Team Standard.

For this category, Megan Picken ran well, winning two bronze in 800m with 2:17.63 and 300mH with 45.31.

In the boy’s category, Rui and Leo Ando had solid runs in their favourite events of 400m and 800m.

For the Midget category, Thomas Nobbs won two gold in the 800m and 1200m and a silver in the 1500m Steeple with a great result of 2:02.90; 3.17.49 and 4:22.63.

Anastas Eliopoulos won two gold medals: 100mH with a personal best of 13.65 and 200m H with 25.73.

For the JD category, Paris Eliopoulos won gold in the 80mH with 14.13.

Thomas Ma won two gold in 200m with 29.47, and in Long Jump with 3.87m; two silver in 60m with 8.83 and shot put with 7.82m and a bronze in the 100m.

VOC Athletes in the Pool of World Juniors Championship

Athletics Canada has considered two VOC athlete achievements in the Athletes Tracking for 2014 World junior Championship in Eugene July 22-27.

  1. Stephanie Cho in 400m Hurdles with 59.96, ranked 4th in the country.
  2. William Hoy in 2000mSC with 6:05.99, ranked 7th in the country.
